About Us
Learn about the history and mission of the Società Dante Alighieri of Vigo
History
The Società Dante Alighieri was founded in 1889 by a group of intellectuals led by the poet Giosuè Carducci with the aim of protecting and spreading the Italian language and culture worldwide.
Today there are 87 committees in Italy and more than 423 committees worldwide, distributed across five continents, organizing over 8,000 Italian language and culture courses for more than 122,000 students.
In 2020, the Società Dante Alighieri - Vigo Committee was established to be a reference point for spreading the Italian language and culture and to promote greater exchange between Galicia and Italy.
Our Mission
The Società Dante Alighieri - Vigo Committee promotes the Italian language and culture through numerous initiatives: lectures, concerts, film forums, and especially language and culture courses.
Since 2021, our committee has also been a PLIDA examination center (Progetto Lingua Italiana Dante Alighieri), the certification of competence in Italian that our students can obtain.
The Società Dante Alighieri - Vigo Committee is managed by a board composed of people connected by profession or passion to Italian culture.
